The Company has a deep portfolio of innovative solutions fostered by a full range of products from structuring to finishing applications that can help local builders execute with high performance and efficiency a wide range of projects from massive infrastructure to simple home repairs. With cement manufacturing facilities in La Union, Bulacan, Batangas, Misamis Oriental and Davao, as well as aggregates and dry mix business and technical support facilities for building solutions, Holcim Philippines is a reliable partner of builders in the country. Holcim Philippines is also committed to the highest standards of sustainable operations and manufacturing excellence with its plants certified under ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental Management System), ISO 9001:2008 (Quality Management System) and OHSAS 18001:2007 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System). Holcim Philippines is a member of the LafargeHolcim Group, the world leader in the building materials industry present in 80 countries with over 80,000 employees. ******

To better support the construction boom in the country, leading building solutions provider Holcim Philippines, Inc. has launched a new special blended cement product formulated to perform better and have a lower impact on the environment than Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). Ram Maganti, Senior Vice President for Marketing and Innovation of Holcim Philippines, said the new product called Solido has clear advantages over OPC that makes it a better choice in building infrastructures in the country. In terms of performance, Solido-made concrete is more durable as it is less prone to water and chemical seepage that causes deterioration from within. This is due to Solido’s mineral additives that make concrete less permeable and lower heat that causes thermal cracks in the structure, Maganti said. Solido also exceeds the construction industry’s compressive strength standards for the 28-day mark and continues to grow stronger beyond that compared with OPC. Furthermore, Solido concrete is easier to mix and place that can help complete work faster, he added. Part of the offering to Solido users are technical trainings and tests, and field support to provide packaging format options that are suitable to their projects. Beyond product performance, Solido is more environment friendly than OPC due to its lower clinker content, the intermediate product responsible for a significant amount of carbon dioxide emissions during cement production. “These are the seven-star advantages of Solido that makes it the best in class in blended cement. This new product is further proof of Holcim Philippines’ determination to be a partner for progress of the country anchored on our strengths in innovation and sustainability. As the construction boom in the country continues, Solido will help our customers in building high quality and sustainable structures,” he said. Holcim Philippines formally launched Solido to key customers in Davao on March 1, with road shows scheduled nationwide for other important business partners in the first half. **********

Tips to survive the Flu Season: Prevention is always better than cure

Influenza or flu is a seasonal virus that commonly occurs in tropical countries such as the Philippines. Influenza cases rise during the wet season but also thrived during the dry season when humidity and temperature are unusually high. In the Philippines, flu is felt all year round by Filipinos regardless of gender or age.

People frequenting public areas such as transportation hubs, markets, entertainment centers, and amusement parks to include schools and offices are at risk of acquiring the virus. The virus is transmitted or spread in several ways such as; direct contact with infected individuals and direct contact with contaminated objects. Flu can also be transmitted when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, spewing nasal and throat secretions into the air.

The WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO) recently warned the general public with the possibility of another “influenza pandemic” in the country. WHO studies reveal the shortages of influenza vaccines which may post serious concerns both to the Philippine government and to the public.

Health experts therefore reiterated the need to broaden the information campaign on the importance of prevention of the spread of this virus, citing further that everyone is at risk of acquiring the virus anytime and anywhere.

People with low immune system ran more risks in acquiring the virus. Low immune system is associated with lack of vitamins, which is further aggravated by stress brought about by someone’s work environment as well as the tropical weather. Hence, taking the following tips will immensely reduce the risk of acquiring the influenza virus:

  1. Avoid crowds during flu season
  2. Disinfect contaminated surfaces
  3. Wash hands with soap and water regularly
  4. Exercise
  5. Eat healthy and avoid intake of junk foods
  6. Taking Flu shots
  7. Intake vitamin and mineral supplements

In summary, it is important for you to have a strong immune system in order for you to combat the virus. IFC’s EDGE Certification for Serviced Residences – Ascott Makati

Ascott Makati has achieved EDGE green building certification from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, on 26 February 2019 ─ a global recognition since it is the first to receive such distinction in the service residence category of EDGE. EDGE is an innovative green building certification system that helps reduce a building’s energy and water consumption and decrease greenhouse-gas emissions, which in turn drives operational efficiency and reduces environmental impacts. Ascott Makati reflects the aspirations of its guests’ commitment to sustainability. With the property’s attainment of EDGE’s minimum standard of a 20 percent reduction in the use of energy, water, and the energy that goes into making the construction materials, the certification creates an opportunity for high-performing urban dwellings. There are unique operational requirements and building elements for serviced residences which affect consumption patterns. The serviced residence category of EDGE ensures an accurate benchmark against which properties can be measured and awarded. “Our commitment to EDGE is an acknowledgement of the premium we bring to our guests through sustainable practices,” said Philip Barnes, The Ascott Limited Philippines’ Area Head for Luzon. “Ascott Makati’s EDGE certification will pave the way for more properties to be certified under this international green benchmark that has great potential for the serviced residence industry. EDGE certification is a great beginning to our partnership with IFC, which includes expanding research and implementing the sustainable design of serviced residences in emerging regions.” “We want to be leaders in the serviced residence industry’s development of green technology and design practices,” said Daniel Wee, Country General Manager of The Ascott Limited Philippines. “We need to be rooted in our vision to uphold and advance our procedures for protecting the environment, for the benefit of our customers.” With an increasing global demand by corporate clients for properties with green features, the obtaining of EDGE certification status by Ascott Makati is a game changer in the industry. EXPERIENCE KUYSEN

EXPERIENCE KUYSEN

On the 21st of February 2019, the Kuysen Design and Experience Center, a five-storey, multi-function building will open its doors to its valued guests. A showroom that is first of its kind in the Philippines. Kuysen, one of the leading source in luxury home furniture and fixtures promises an experience beyond the ordinary. This single day event will treat guests to an experience that indulges the senses in celebration of Kuysen’s 30th year in the industry. The impressive fixtures and sheer massive space of the showroom are brought to life by the hands of esteemed architect and interior designer, Ed Calma. This is the first showroom that he designed as a luxury home. When it comes to designing a living space, Calma considers making the space unique to the users by incorporating elements such as use of materials and expressing them in a different way. He demonstrates this uniqueness by adding the signature Ed Calma touch to each specialized floor of the Kuysen Design and Experience Center. According to him,

“The Kuysen showroom is located along arow of boxy buildings in Jupiter street. This gave me an opportunity to break the line of boxes by splaying the floors of the building into separate forms allowing Kuysen to define each floor to house a particular brand or product. The curvilinear facade creates a segmented facade of glass of different angles that minimizes direct heat gain into the building.”

Calmauses hierarchy for the form, materials, and color to unify the internal and external elements in a design. The key, he says, is to have a dominant element to which all other aspects have to be subservient. Doing so will ensure all elements will fall into place and make sense as a whole, thereby creating a beautiful, well-curated space. All floors were furnished with a consistent theme of dark wood that brings the whole building design together. The architectural interior fit out products such as sliding doors and hardware which were intended to increase the spatial experience of the showroom.

Indeed, nothing brings out luxury more than the Kuysen Design and Experience Center. This showroom is breathtaking. Upon entering, one will be in awe of the beautiful furniture that is settled on perfect spots in the massive room. The ground floor, called LuxeLiving, features a Kuysen curated space that allows clients to visualize an actual living area with the selection of luxury brands such as Porro, Living Divani, Poggenpohl and Vibia.
