PCPPI delivers on environment stewardship commitments

Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI)—the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country—reaffirms its focus on sustainable business practices as it announced its recent wins on environmental protection and stewardship.

Recognizing the role of private sectors in minimizing plastic wastes that end up in the environment, PCPPI continues to practice light weighting to reduce their virgin plastic content in plastic packaging. The company said it had already reduced about 118 metric tons of plastic resin as of September 2021. This equates to almost six million single-serve Pepsi polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. PCPPI has also saved 36,000 kilograms of carton as secondary packaging through the light weighting initiative.

“PCPPI has fervently elevated our business practices to benefit the environment and the people. It’s still a long journey towards achieving plastic neutrality, but we are happy to see that we are making remarkable progress and positive impact on the environment,” said PCPPI president and chief executive officer Frederick D. Ong.

In 2020, PCPPI was able to save 76 metric tons or about 3.8 million single-serve PET bottles.

Clean-up Drives

PCPPI is also bolstering its water stewardship initiatives through its participation in various localized coastal clean-up activities. The company’s regional offices in Batangas, La Union, Cagayan De Oro, and Davao partnered with local government units and Environment and Natural Resources offices to collect wastes along coastal areas and bodies of water.

The company also supported the community clean-up drives and waste management activities by providing segregation bins in Sto. Tomas, Batangas and Rosario, La Union.

For their part, PCPPI Cagayan De Oro volunteered to participate in the Limpyo Dagat Program of Cagayan De Oro City to clean the stretch of Cagayan de Oro coast. Since 2019, PCPPI is the only private organization participating in the said program.

As part of its water stewardship program, PCPPI has adopted six water-bodies to create and implement sustained and long-term protection projects, together with partner local government units.

“The company respects water as its main resource and as everyone’s fundamental right. Through these activities, we are allowing our business to thrive sustainably, while benefitting the lives of the communities around us,” said Ong.

PCPPI is the exclusive manufacturer of well-known beverage brands in the Philippines: Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, 7-Up, Mirinda, Mug, Gatorade, Tropicana, Lipton, Sting, Premier, Milkis, and Aquafina.

Sterling Bank of Asia (SBA) has selected San Juan City’s Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) as one of this year’s beneficiaries of their annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the Kind
Heart Gives Campaign.

Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) of San Juan City’s BJMP showcased their craftsmanship in their parol- making project, which also serves as an opportunity for them to support themselves and their families financially. The “parol,” which is one of the most iconic symbols of Filipino Christmas, is a staple decoration in most houses.

“The parol is a great expression of the Filipinos’ faith and hope,” said Cecilio San Pedro, SBA’s President and CEO. “We’d like to take this opportunity to extend our support to the PDL’s of San Juan City as we move towards a brighter Christmas celebration in these challenging times,” San Pedro added.

During the announcement of the activity, Sterling Bank of Asia employees also ordered their own parols to bring home and hang in their homes.

“It is inspiring to see how our fellow employees happily bought their own parols as a way of helping these persons deprived of liberty,” said Dulce Edillor, SBA’s Human Resources Group Head. “From a company-led initiative, our fellow employees voluntarily involved themselves in the project,” exclaimed
Edillor.

PETA DRAMA ANTHOLOGY ON HIV “UNDER MY SKIN” TO STREAM STARTING NOVEMBER 26

The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) is set to stream another play to cap 2021! In commemoration of of World AIDS Day, PETA, together with esteemed advocacy organizations The Red Whistle and LoveYourself, UNILAB, Inc., and Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc., revamps Rody Vera’s provocative, relevant, and heart-wrenching anthology drama on HIV, Under My Skin, directed by Melvin Lee, from the stage to the screen.

Under My Skin was PETA’s last live performance at the PETA Theater Center before the lockdown in 2020 happened – just two weeks shy of the show’s closing. The play is inspired by real people and events, and it accurately depicts the realities, triumphs, and struggles of people living with HIV, while navigating an important conversation about acceptance and tolerance. The show introduces us to a number of characters – Jonathan, Greg, Syd, and Mario whose relationships are tested when Jonathan gets infected; Dino, an HIV-positive teen whose status is discovered through a contraction of tuberculosis; Mary Rose, a mother who unknowingly passed down the virus to her son after getting it from her husband; a gay beauty parlor employee experiencing work-related discrimination, and more. Their stories of love, pain, and acceptance are revealed through Dr. Almonte, who is studying the spread of the devastating virus.

PETA Executive Director Beng Santos-Cabangon says that Under My Skin hopes to yet again provide a space where various HIV-advocacy groups can unite and strengthen their cause, with art and theater at the centerpiece. “We believe that Under My Skin Online can continue to serve as a platform for probing conversations and reflections as well as bringing attention to and engaging the public on the issue of HIV and AIDS. Converting the production into the film medium would allow for more people to see it – and bring to the spotlight the advocacy,” says Santos-Cabangon.

“Amidst the COVID- 19 pandemic, we should be relentless in our efforts to address the problem of access to HIV prevention, testing and treatment. It is our hope that this endeavor will contribute in generating greater public awareness and concern, building a caring community and somehow helping eradicate stigma and discrimination,” she adds.

Now is also the time to generate urgent conversations about HIV and AIDS – especially since there has been a “21% increase in new infection brought about by the decrease in HIV prevention coverage and increase in treatment gap,” according to the 2021 data of the Department of Health. LoveYourself founder and executive director Ronivin Pagtakhan says that as the pandemic continues to evolve, we continue to adapt in the name of the HIV advocacy. “LoveYourself has allocated resources to shift our services online including refill for treatment medicines with XPress, self-screening with SelfCare, and setting up regular appointments for health check up with Booking as we contribute to ensuring equitable access of HIV-related services for key populations in the country,” says Ronivin. “We are glad to partner once again with the wonderful people at PETA to make Under My Skin accessible online for greater awareness as this initiative amplifies our advocacy’s voice towards ending the HIV epidemic.”

The Red Whistle also continues to respond to the HIV epidemic by addressing the need for a change in mindset. “Theater has the ability to move people to understand the issue more. We need to shift perspectives around HIV-related stigma and change attitudes towards our sexual health,” says The Red Whistle Executive Director Benedict Bernabe.

“If we want to change people’s minds, we need to tug on their heartstrings first. This is why the arts is an important and necessary component—especially during this pandemic—not just for awareness and education, but also for behavior change in the HIV advocacy.”

Under My Skin Online is a timely streaming in commemoration of World AIDS Day on December 1. Although it may take some time before things return to normal and the curtains at theaters rise once again, PETA, along with its partners, continue to strive to make meaningful theater on a new kind of “stage” in this virtual era.

Under My Skin is written by Rody Vera and directed by Melvin Lee. The online streaming cast features

Cherry Pie Picache, Eko Baquial, Gio Gahol, Mike Liwag, Jarred Jaicten, Kitsi Pagaspas, Dylan Ray Talon, Dudz Teraña, She Maala, Bene Manaois, Erold Enriquez, Jason Barcial, Joseph Madriaga, Rach Gimpes, Reggie Ondevilla, Roy Dahildahil, Gerard Dy, and Ekis Gimenez.

Under My Skin is streaming this November 26 to 28, and November 30 – December 5, 2021. Tickets are still available at Php 180 for Livestream, and Php 250 for Video on Demand tickets via www.ticket2me.net, bit.ly/undermyskinonline, or through any of the Under My Skin Online showbuyers. It’s Time to Revisit these 5 Cleaning Habits That You’re Probably Doing Wrong!

Spoiler alert: In cleaning your toilet, thick bleach lasts longer!

Since the pandemic started, most households are cleaning more often to disinfect every corner of the house.

That’s not a bad thing, a clean home creates less space for disease-causing germs to spread and most likely infect you. Take note: bacteria can breed and grow into 8 million copies of itself in just 24 hours. That is something you do not just overlook.

According to a survey, it takes around two to four hours a week for an individual to clean their homes. However, some ineffective cleaning habits can further spread more unwanted organisms in places where they shouldn’t be.

Domex, the germ-killing expert, encourages the public to revisit some cleaning methods to make sure every toilet of every home is protected from unwanted invaders.

  1. Wiping Every Surface with the Same Cleaning Tool

If you are using sponges or cleaning cloths to wipe surfaces, you’re probably just transferring even more germs from one place to another! It’s best to dedicate a cleaning tool for specific places to ensure there’s less risk of transferring.

Alternatively, before cleaning the next area with the same tool, it’s advisable to soak sponges/cleaning cloths indisinfectant. This kills the germs you already wiped off before they even get the chance to transfer elsewhere.

Leaving the Toilet Cover Up when Flushing the Toilet

Did you know that there are approximately 2.3 million germs per square inch on the surface of your toilet? What you probably didn’t know is you might be adding more to that number every time you flush your toilet with the seat cover open. The rush of water launches fecal bacteria (E. Coli and fecal coliform) up in the air before dropping down to new territory – and that’s if it does not get stuck under the rim of the seat.

Next time you do some business, just make sure to close the lid and the rest of the bathroom stays germ-free longer – and do not forget to pour in a germ-killing expertwhen it’s cleaning time.

  • Scrubbing/wiping cleaning products before they take effect

When disinfecting surfaces, it’s important to let cleaning solutions take time and do its job, mainly: to kill the germs we want to avoid. But what most probably do is to apply products, and then immediately proceed to cleaning.

The best way to make sure you make the most out of cleaning is to first clear any dirt, debris, or stains that might have built up over time. Once clear, that’s the time to apply a disinfecting agentto eliminate the microbes that you cannot see. After a few minutes, proceed with scrubbing, wiping, and rinsing for a squeaky-clean and germ-free surface.

  • Using ordinary thin Laundry Bleach to clean surfaces in your bathroom including the toilet

Laundry or thin laundry bleach can kill germs; however, this type of cleaning agent is not formulated to stick on the surface to keep it clean longer. That is why it is not advisable to clean your toilet with the same solution you use to clean clothes.

Domex Ultra Thick Bleach effectively does the job as it eliminates the germs that inhabit bathroom surfaces and gives 3x longer protection than thin bleach when used pure (this is based on credible lab tests!). And if you don’t know it yet, yes, you should be cleaning your toilets daily.

  • Storing cleaning tools as soon as you’re done

After the job is done, most people will probably call it a day and put their tools back in storage. What is often forgotten is you should also clean these tools as soon as you’re done with them. If you don’t clean the tools right after using them, it’s likely to grow the germs you’re trying to avoid in the first place.

Our recommended way to clean tools is to apply a solution of Domex mixed with water, wait a few minutes, rinse, and let dry overnight. Use it again to clean the following day and repeat the cleaning process.

A clean home is a must, and to ensure every space is free of disease-causing germs, it’s best to do it with a long-lasting germ-killing expert. There is no perfect time but now to revisit your cleaning habits and level up your fight against germs with #UnstoppableDomex, especially because November 19 is World Toilet Day!

Ensure you have a clean toilet and a clean home with Domex Ultra Thick Bleach.

Domex products are availableon Shopee, Lazada and supermarkets nationwide.

PH’s 1stStevia grower-manufacturer launches No Sugar iced tea mixes

GIDC, The Stevia Company, and maker of Gloriousproducts, is bringing no sugar iced tea mixes in major supermarkets and groceries!Consumers who cuts on sugar in their diet can now enjoylow calorie, no sugar iced tea mixes that are sweetened by natural alternatives.

Glorious Blend Lemon Iced Tea, Red Tea and Cucumber Lemonade that are sweetened iced tea mixes without sugar are especially produced for people who are cutting and avoiding food and drinks with too much sugar.

Glorious Blend iced tea mixes are naturally sweetened with stevia. The mixes are made from premium ingredients that include mixed berries, real black tea leaves, lemon, and real cucumber. It is low in calorie and loaded with vitamin C.

“Stevia has been regarded as a safe and healthy sugar substitute. It can sweeten foods, and it has several health benefits, including decreased calorie intake, lower blood sugar levels, and less risk of cavities,” said Maura De Leon, the woman behind GIDC, the country’s first FDA registered stevia grower and manufacturer.

Before, stevia was restricted to the health food market without any FDA approval. However, it is now widely used as a natural substitute for artificial sweeteners in many products.

While it has zero calories, stevia is 200 times sweeter than refined sugar and does not affect blood sugar. It is a popular option for people looking to lose weight but who want to reduce their sugar intake.

Stevia is an herb that has been grown in tropical climates for centuries. It is a small bushy plant that belongs to the sunflower family and grows in Paraguay and Brazil, but it can be quickly grown elsewhere. For centuries, the people of Paraguay add them to their foods as sweeteners, and countries like Korea, Brazil, China, Japan, and South America, have long used stevia.

Stevia is now being widely used as a natural sweetener in various food preparations.

People who have diabetes can benefit from stevia. Choosing pure stevia extract can help maintain normal blood sugar levels and should be used in moderation.Stevia can also help cut down added sugar consumption, which can be beneficial for children. High sugar intake in children could lead to heart disease due to reconstructing triglyceride and cholesterol levels, contributing to children’s weight gain. Substituting added sugar for stevia can minimize these risks. At the same time, moderate consumption of foods with stevia and other sweeteners can prevent adverse side effects and promote overall health.

Stevia products such as iced tea mixes, healthy coffees and chocolate beverages manufactured by Glorious, are approved safe by the Food and Drug Association (FDA) for pregnant women or people who have diabetes. Incidentally, all Glorious Blend beverages — from the 3in1 coffee, 4in1 Malunggay mix, 5in1 Brown Rice Coffee, 7-in-1 Mangosteen-Malunggay Coffee, 7in1Native Cacao Choco and Maxitrim with L-Carnitine, use Stevia which has no calories, no carbohydrates, and zero glycemic index. All of their instant drinks will keep you alert and energized throughout the day. For more information about Glorious products, log on to http://www.gidc.com.
